“Just before the collision occurred an unknown truck lost a mattress in the roadway, which was a major contributing factor in this incident,” Kennett tweeted.
Troopers said the mattress blocked the road, and a car slammed into it, KIRO reported. The driver of the car lost control of the vehicle, sending it across the lanes of I-5. A tractor-trailer was unable to avoid the car and hit the vehicle, killing the driver, the television station reported.
The name of the motorist in the car has not been released.
“If anyone saw the vehicle that lost the mattress please contact the Washington State Patrol,” Kennett tweeted.
