Total coronavirus cases in the United States soared past 11 million on Sunday, only six days after reaching the grim milestone of 10 million cases.
More than one in 400 Americans have tested positive for the virus in the past week, alone, The New York Times reported.
Specifically, the United States confirmed 11,003,469 COVID-19 cases Sunday, which have resulted in 246,073 deaths to date, according to a tally maintained by Johns Hopkins University.
The most recent virus spike began surging across much of the country in mid-October, the Times reported, noting the nation jumped from eight million cases to nine million cases in just over two weeks, from nine million to 10 million cases in only 10 days and now from 10 million to 11 million cases in only six days.
Meanwhile, the nation recorded its third-highest day of new cases on Saturday with 159,100, raising the 7-day average to more than 145,000, the Times reported.
