Slater was raised outside of Indianapolis, Indiana with four older brothers and a dad who thought children were for child labor. "Work Builds Character!"
He started in radio in High School at 16 and worked at several stations in Indiana before moving to Florida over twenty-years ago. Slater decided Florida was right for him after a blizzard left him stranded at the radio station for three-days. Ever eat vending machine food for three-days? Not a good idea. Two-months later he was in Florida.
Slater has been with Cox Radio for over twenty-years. He started out with their NewsTalk station in Orlando and then was moved over to Cox's Classic Rock station. When a job opened with Cox Radio Tampa Bay and he couldn't wait to leave the land of Mickey Mouse and mellow out on Florida's West Coast.
Slater admits he's a degenerate gambler and you'll probably find him hanging out at one of the local Pari-mutuels. When he's not losing his paycheck at the track you'll find him shooting darts at a local bar.
