Celebrate ‘National Underwear Day’ With A Look Back At ‘Risky Business’ Iconic Dance Scene

🎵 🎵 🎵 🎵 🎵 🎵 🎵 🎵 Just take those old records off the shelf...

A little Bob Seger and a lot of Tom Cruise make for one of the most iconic dance scenes in cinema history.

August 5th is ‘National Underwear Day’. According to NationalToday.com, National Underwear Day was originally created by the brand Freshpair in 2003, as a campaign promoting a positive body image. Although men were part of the initiative as well, the focus was more on women, and how society perceives their body image. This was during a time when being confident in one’s bare skin was somewhat a new concept, and market trends were rapidly changing. The movement went viral, and National Underwear Day has been celebrated on August 5 every year since.

August 5th also happens to be the anniversary of the 1983 film starring Tom Cruise ‘Risky Business’. In the years since the film’s release, the iconic scene featuring Cruise’s character sliding across the floor, dancing in just his pink shirt, socks, and white briefs to Bob Seger’s rendition of “Old Time Rock and Roll” has been recreated in episodes of many television series, as well as in films, parodies, and advertisements. The song was even #100 on AFI’s 100 Years ... 100 Songs list.

We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate these landmarks than by brief-ly covering them both together, along the scene itself - and a few fast facts from down under courtesy of Chaffree.com
