Bubba Owns Tampa Mornings In First Book Back
By Mike Boyle

Bubba the Love Sponge Clem (pictured), who on January 8 returned to terrestrial radio after a four year exile, taking over morning drive at Cox Radio classic rock WHPT (the Bone)/Tampa and classic rock sister WFYV/Jacksonville, got the best news he could have hoped for Friday (May 2) when the Tampa Arbitron winter '08 ratings were released -- he debuted at No.1 in mornings in his first full book back on the air. Here's how Bubba/WHPT looked:

Persons 12 +: 2.8-9.5 (12-1)
Persons 18-34: 3.0-18.4 (12-1)
Persons 18-49: 4.0-14.6 (9-1)
Persons 25-54: 4.2-14.0 (6-1)
Persons 35-64: 3.6-8.3 (7-1)

Clear Channel Radio fired Bubba in February 2004 after the company was fined $755,000 by the FCC for skits he aired on four of the company's stations that involved cartoon characters talking about sex and drugs.

WHPT PD John Larson, who supplied R&R with the data, said, "Bubba did a great job and people really missed him; it's obvious by the ratings."
